Welcome to Eighth Grade Science
Dear Students,
Welcome to eighth grade science and the Explorer Team. I am very excited to be one of your teachers this year. I believe that we will have a successful and fun year together. In order for either of these goals to become reality, it is important that class expectations are followed.
Class Expectations
Each class member is expected to come to class prepared for the day. You must bring a pencil, your element buddy sheet, your science notebook, and your science textbook to class each day. If the class is working on a special project, other materials may be required in class as well. It is also expected that students arrive to class with any assigned homework completed. Students will not be allowed to leave class to get supplies and homework from their lockers.
While in class respect for yourself, others, the space, and materials is expected. Students who are not able to show respect may be asked to leave and spend additional time outside of class with me to discuss such situations.
Other Information
Eighth grade science is Physical Science. We will spend a great deal of time working on Physics and Chemistry skills. In doing so, we will complete many exciting projects. In fact, at least one major project per term will be assigned.
Grades will be calculated on a points system. Tests and most projects will be 100 points, quizzes and lab reports will vary in point value and homework will range from 1-5 points. At the time assignments are announced, point values for the assignments will also be announced. You final term grade will be a percentage and will be determined by the total point value you earned divided by the total point value possible. This point system will be explained in more depth in class.
Our class will run smoothly with the help of many procedures that are in place such as sign-out systems, the opening activities, and the homework clothesline. These will also be explained in class and you will be expected to follow all class procedure.
I look forward to a great year of science!
Respectfully,
Mrs. McKeen
