On Thursday, March 5th, Representative Peter Fagan visited the Omega Team at RMS to share his experience and his expertise on the legislative process. Mr. Fagan spoke specifically on how legislative committees work, allowing students the opportunity to experience two role-playing scenarios.

Omega Students debated whether or not snow boarding should be the “official” sport of the State of Vermont, as introduced in the Vermont State House.  Another class debated on whether individuals under 18 should be allowed to use tanning salons. Both bills brought forth expert testimony during mock committee hearings.

The results of a day’s work: the bill to make snowboarding the official sport of Vermont was amended to include skiing.  In this form, the Omega Team passed the bill.  The tanning bill would not have gotten out of committee.

Thank you Representative Fagan for a great learning opportunity!
