African Masks

Students in Creative Structure learned about symbolism, construction and usage of traditional African Masks. Various cultural and ceremonial uses were discussed and viewed. Following a brainstorming session students were set to task designing their own mask based on traditional African mask concepts. One requirement stated that the mask had to incorporate an animal trait that the student either had or wish they had. Using clay students rolled out slabs and worked with sculpting methods to create their own mask.
