Rutland High School Vision Statement
Ratified by R.H.S. Faculty 10/1/08
We believe that, in order to help students become accomplished individuals and community members, we must cultivate-adult to student, adult to adult, and student to student-a collaborative environment built on the following:
Climate
- The climate will:
- Support positive personal relationships in a safe and healthy environment
- Encourage communication, clear expectations, and consistency of practice
- Foster respect, tolerance, and a joy of learning
Curriculum
- The curriculum will:
- Serve and engage all students
- Prepare students for life experiences
- Provide integrated/interdisciplinary opportunities that encourage students to make connections and improve transfer across the curriculum
- Cultivate critical thinking skills
- Promote reading and writing in all curricular areas
- Elicit self reflection
- Integrate technology
Instruction
- Instruction will:
- Include diverse models, strategies and best practices
- Provide cooperative and student-led learning opportunities
- Effectively utilize technology
Schedule
- The schedule will not drive the curriculum and will be flexible enough to allow teachers to:
- Utilize common planning time
- Team teach
- Provide support mechanisms and individualized time for all students
- Provide a continuity of study
