Rutland High School Vision Statement

Rutland High School Vision Statement

Ratified by R.H.S. Faculty 10/1/08

We believe that, in order to help students become accomplished individuals and community members, we must cultivate-adult to student, adult to adult, and student to student-a collaborative environment built on the following:

Climate

  • The climate will:
    • Support positive personal relationships in a safe and healthy environment
    • Encourage communication, clear expectations, and consistency of practice
    • Foster respect, tolerance, and a joy of learning

Curriculum

  • The curriculum will:
    • Serve and engage all students
    • Prepare students for life experiences
    • Provide integrated/interdisciplinary opportunities that encourage students to make connections and improve transfer across the curriculum
    • Cultivate critical thinking skills
    • Promote reading and writing in all curricular areas
    • Elicit self reflection
    • Integrate technology

Instruction

  • Instruction will:
    • Include diverse models, strategies and best practices
    • Provide cooperative and student-led learning opportunities
    • Effectively utilize technology

Schedule

  • The schedule will not drive the curriculum and will be flexible enough to allow teachers to:
    • Utilize common planning time
    • Team teach
    • Provide support mechanisms and individualized time for all students
    • Provide a continuity of study
