Advanced Orchestra

This ensemble is a curricular class and membership in this group is by audition only. The group performs chamber orchestra literature from Baroque to Contemporary. The ensemble appears throughout the community and state representing Rutland High School. Public performance and audition preparation are criteria for this course. Current orchestra membership is required.
Art Club
Art Room
The Art Club is open to any student with an interest in the visual arts. Using either the two-dimensional or three-dimensional process club members have the opportunity to explore a variety of medias such as acrylic painting, raku firing, or bronze casting. Along with creating special art projects Art Club members will have the opportunity to develop a professional quality photographic portfolio of their art work.
Through the school year various community events occur in which the art club member will have the chance to participate as a club or individually, such as the Halloween parade, poster contests, art shows, and production of the annual literary / visual arts magazine, Raiders of the Arts. The Art Club’s Halloween parade float is always an “attention getter” and a major effort is needed to make it happen. Yet members are encouraged to come work on their projects at the creative structure room any of their free time, during or after school.
Choral Festival Club

The Choral Festival Club is open to any RHS choral student who is interested in auditioning for the District, All State or New England Music Festivals. Students who make it into the festivals will continue to meet to rehearse the festival pieces.
Club Giving

This club is based on the concept of Kiva.org which makes micro loans to the poor to help them out of poverty. We will raise money through a variety of creative fundraising ideas that we may come up with! We will use this money to directly impact the poor by sponsoring needy people through organizations like Kiva.org, allowing our members to directly see who they are helping! We also hope to sponsor clubs at other schools to increase our impact on the poor, and to educate teens and others about microfinance.
DELTA EPSILON PHI – German National Honor Society

Delta Epsilon Phi – German National Honor Society is open to students by invitation only who have completed German Level II with a 3.6 or greater GPA in German I & II and a 3.0 GPA overall. Delta Epsilon Phi is a club to recognize outstanding students of German who are academically motivated and share a common interest in German. Community service activities are required.
DRUMLINE
The RHS Drumline plays at home football games, playing funky and energetic grooves. Don’t have drumming experience? No problem! This group is open to any student enrolled in a music ensemble at RHS, regardless of your primary instrument. See Mr. Barnett for more information.
Encore Theatre
Theater
Cathy Archer and students with an interest in drama at Rutland High School established Encore Theatre in 1985. Since then the company has continued to grow and produce exceptional works of theatre. Now in it’s twenty-fifth year Encore continues the commitment to produce quality shows and attend festivals that heighten our understanding and passion for drama. Encore theatre is an International Thespian Society (#5698) troupe. ITS was founded to honor those students who have committed themselves to excellence in theatrical productions. Encore Theatre produces three to four shows per year, including a summer children’s play that involves students in grades 7-12 and travels throughout the state.
Debate and Forensics Club

The RHS Forensics Club is a member of the Vermont Debate and Forensics League, created to promote interscholastic speech competition. The VDFL conducts a full schedule of debate and public speaking tournaments hosted by participating schools throughout Vermont during the fall and winter. The forensics program includes eight events. They are the interpretation of prose, poetry, drama; extemporaneous and impromptu speaking; original oratory; and radio announcing. A meet or tournament includes three rounds where students present to one or two judges. The judges then award a rank as well as points to each speaker thereby determining the top speakers in each category and the top teams. Complete descriptions and rules for each event may be obtained from the advisor, Mr. Eisenman .
Gay-Straight Alliance

The Gay-Straight Alliance is a group of students at Rutland High School whose purpose is to:
- educate the school community about homophobia, gender identity, and sexual orientation issues
- create a safe environment in Rutland High School for students to support each other regardless of sexual orientation
- fight all discrimination, harassment, and violence at Rutland High School
- provide a forum where students can confidentially discuss issues surrounding sexual orientation and the problems that arise concerning this issue
- provide a “safe place” for GLBTQ youth who are being harassed
All people are welcome and encouraged to get involved in the GSA.
Green Mountain Teen Institute

This club focuses on “prevention activities”. These activities are things such as Red Ribbon Week, Big Friends with elementary school and middle school students, the annual Carnival, and various self-esteem and leadership activities.
Harmony Club
Chorus Room
Harmony Club is open to all singers. We perform barbershop, doo-wop, and other styles in school concerts and around the Rutland area. Membership is by audition, at various times of the school year.
Key Club

Rutland High Key Club is a community service club sponsored by the Rutland Kiwanis Club. We welcome all Rutland High students who wish to be of service to their school and community. Some of the club activities in the past have included:
- Christmas dinner at the Bardwell House
- Wheelchair square dances
- Thanksgiving baskets
- Book drives
- Bicycle rodeos
- Dinner at the Open Door Mission
- Patriotic packages for soldiers
- Recycling of cell phones
- Walk-A-Thons for diabetes and ALS
- Participation in the New England Key Club Convention
Literary Club Thursdays at 3:15pm

Literary Club is a group for creative writers. Being part of this club means meeting and getting to know other students who enjoy writing. You will have the opportunity to share and receive feedback on your work, and to participate in spontaneous weekly writing activities. Everything we do is creative and fun. Larger school events – such as public readings or poetry slams – are also a possibility, and you will have the opportunity to publish your writing in our annual spring literary magazine.
Model United Nations

The Model UN club meets regularly to discuss international affairs, world politics and issues of global concern. We will participate in a regional Model UN Conference in the Northeast.
National Honor Society
Chem Lab 2
Membership in the National Honor Society is open to juniors and seniors who are selected by a faculty council based on their scholarship, character, service, and leadership. The selection is based on a 93 or better unweighted Grade Point Average (with no grade below a 70 in the year of selection) as well as positive, role-model character, service to the school and community and strong leadership skills. An eligible student accepting membership must be strongly committed to attending all NHS meetings and functions.
Rock Climbing
Green Mountain Rock Climbing Ctr
The RHS Rock-climbing Club is open to any student who is interested in learning how to rock-climb or improving their skills. The group meets weekly from October to March at the Green Mountain Rock Climbing Center for practice and competitions against other schools are held there once a month.
Senior Video Club
Room White 11
The Senior Video Club is open to any student with an interest in the creation of the Senior Video. Throughout the school year students will have the chance to collect pictures and movie clips of Senior students. Students will learn to categorize and organize the collections. Student will be able to work on projects using Adobe Photoshop and Final Cut software.
Spoken Truth

Spoken Truth is a student initiated and student lead bible study at Rutland High School. We meet Friday mornings for prayer, study and fellowship. All are welcome!
Student Senate

This organization is the student governing body of RHS. Student Senate consists of two representatives from each class, elected by their peers. Each student activity also provides a representative to the Senate. Student Senate promotes the involvement of the students in the school and in the community. The Senate addresses concerns that students and teachers have and help to encourage students’ opinions with major decisions made in our school.
TRI-M
Chorus Room
Tri-M is the local chapter of the National Music Honor Society. Tri-M sponsors many activities and events throughout the year, including student recitals at RHS and nursing homes, mentoring younger musicians, Adopt-a-Family, ushering at local concerts, and various fund raising activities. Membership is open to students who are in a Music performing ensemble for at least one semester.
Unpredictables Fridays at 7:00am
Chorus Room
The Unpredictables is a small, select, female singing ensemble, which rehearses once a week. Auditions are held in the fall. Each February, the Unpredictables sell “Singing Valentines” and deliver them in and around the school. The group performs at concerts, nursing homes and other venues in Rutland and other parts of Vermont.
