Academics at Northwest Primary

At Northwest and Pierpoint there are three instructional models.

Straight Grade is the traditional classroom model. A group of children that are the same chronological age who stay with the same teacher for one year. This is the model that most of our parents and teachers had in school.

Looping is a format that will allow students of the same chronological age to stay with the same teacher for two years. Our Kindergarten to first grade loop is in its fourth year of existence.

Non-graded K-2 is the model that is offered at Pierpoint Primary Learning Center. The non-graded system keeps students at PPLC through grade 2. Students are assigned a “home-base” teacher that they are with for the full three years. In home-base students cover thematic material and social curriculum with students in grades k-2. In the non-graded system at PPLC students are grouped by ability for reading and math.

Note: the three programs listed above all have access to the same services and strive to achieve the same academic standards while following Rutland City Public School’s curriculum.
